What’s Trending: 2019 Kitchen Trends
What is trending for kitchens? This year, it is all about clean lines, metals, and color!
Speaking of color – did you know this year’s Pantone Color of the Year is Living Coral. Coral is one of those colors that works so well against a home’s neutral background (it also looks great on just about anyone!).
While you won’t see Living Coral in kitchen cabinetry, non-white, painted cabinets are everywhere!
COLORED CABINETRY
We’ve been loving this trend for a few years now. Think blues, greens, and grays.
If you aren’t feeling the colored cabinet trend, you can also use color as an accent. This is a kitchen we did a couple of years ago. The island color is Midnight, a great contrast to the Dove White perimeter cabinets.
Another trend we’re seeing is Two Toned Kitchens – using one color for the upper cabinets and another color for the base cabinets. Done right, I think it is gorgeous!
BIG BACK-SPLASHES & OPEN SHELVING
I love these big and bold back splashes that go all the way up to the ceiling. Talk about making a statement!
Open shelving can make a space feel open and airy. Worried about keeping the shelves tidy? You only need to have a couple of shelves to get the look!
BLACK APPLIANCES
This trend has been gaining popularity over the last few years. This isn’t the typical shiny black appliances of the 90’s. We’re talking black stainless steel and matte black finishes. So pretty, so sleek!
Speaking of sleek – y’all, I’m so in love with these new looks from GE. Can’t get enough of the brushed gold handles and knobs..
METALS
Brushed Gold is all the rage right now. We are currently under construction on our next spec home and I am planning some brushed gold fixtures in the kitchen. Right now, the plan is to use this faucet with a simple, contemporary brushed gold cabinet pull. I can’t wait to see it paired with the dark gray painted cabinet we’ve selected. Here was some inspiration…
Not sold on using the same brushed gold throughout the kitchen? I’m a huge fan of mixing metals (the right way). You just want to make sure the mix looks intentional and not like a WHOOPS!
Whatever design elements you choose for your kitchen, the most important thing is to make sure it is still functional for you and for your family. You can also check out my tips for designing a functional kitchen!
