Jen In The Kitchen: Double Chocolate Brownie Trifle
Looking for a delicious and easy dessert that feeds a crowd! I’ve got you covered with my mom’s yummy Double Chocolate Brownie Trifle. If you don’t know, a trifle is a layered dessert. It’s best to serve it in a trifle bowl, because it shows off the pretty layers.
This trifle recipe was shared with me by mom several years ago. My mom is the reason I love to cook. She’s taught me a lot over the years, but the one thing I treasure most that I learned from her is the joy of cooking for loved ones. You might say that cooking for the people I love is one of my love languages!
So let’s get to it. Mom’s Double Chocolate Brownie is made up of 4 sweet parts – chocolate brownie, chocolate pudding, whipped topping, and Heath bar. The first thing you need to do is make the brownies. My favorite brownie mix is Ghiradelli Double Chocolate. It has chocolate chips in the batter – YUM. When I cook the mix for this trifle recipe, I will pull it out of the oven just before it’s completely cooked (there should be a little batter left on the tip of the toothpick when testing for doneness). I love a good gooey, chewy brownie, so leaving it slightly undercooked. Once you pull it out of the oven, grab a fork and crumble the entire pan of brownies. You will do this anyway to assemble the trifle, and this way the brownies cool faster.
Next up, make the chocolate pudding. Any instant chocolate will do. Once the pudding is chilling in the frig, grab the Heath bars (or your favorite chocolate toffee bar, Skor works too!). I usually use 6 regular bars or 3 XL bars (you can’t overdue it when it comes to this recipe).
Unwrap the bars, throw them in a zip lock bag, and then grab something to crush them with. I use my meat tenderizer or you can use a rolling pin. Smash up the candy bars until they chopped but not pulverized.
Once the brownies are cooled, you are ready to assemble the trifle. Grab your vessel and start layering 1/2 the crumbled brownies, 1/2 of the chocolate pudding, 1/2 of the crushed candy bars, and 1/2 of the container of whipped topping. Then repeat so you have 8 layers, ending with the whipped topping. For decoration, I usually empty the zip lock bag of the fine pieces of candy bar. It makes it all look pretty!
