Interior Elements of Modern Home Design
Modern home design has taken over in the last few years! It is so interesting to reflect back on the last 20 years of design trends. When I first started working for Dad in 2001, the trend was still very traditional. This is our Hastings Model which was our top seller for a long time…
By the late 2000’s, Craftsman style homes had taken over. This is our Hillwood Model (one of my favorite narrow lot designs!).
We still build plenty of Craftsman style homes (and some traditional too!) and I think we always will. But we are seeing a trend towards Modern Farmhouse and Modern style homes. I’m excited about this new trend because change is good!
When designing your Modern home, you should pay attention to a few elements, both exterior and interior. I recently posted all about Exterior Elements of Modern Home Design, and today, I’ll be covering the interior elements of modern home design!
Modern Trim
When planning the interior trim package, you should incorporate things like modern stairs and rails, and simple trim around windows and doors. Gone are the elaborate crown molding and trim popular in traditional homes.
A linear gas fireplace, with or without a simple mantle, is a great element to include.
Modern Cabinetry & Fixtures
The cabinetry in the kitchen and the bathrooms should incorporate flat panels and floating vanities…
Plumbing and electrical fixtures should also have a modern feel.
Natural Color Palette
Bring the outside in with neutral flooring selections and simple white interior paint. Modern home color palette should be kept simple and minimalistic.
