6 Items You Should Never Flush Down Your Toilet
I think most of us would agree on the obvious things that should never be flushed down a toilet. But there are common household items that seem harmless, but could wreak havoc on your pipes. Here are a few…
WIPES, TISSUES, AND PAPER TOWELS…they may seem to be in the same family as toilet paper, but they’re not. Even the wipes that are marketed as “flushable” should never be flushed. These products do not absorb water and will clog your toilet.
COTTON PRODUCTS LIKE COTTON BALLS, MAKE-UP REMOVER PADS, AND Q-TIPS…these products do not break down like regular toilet paper.
ANYTHING PLASTIC…this seems like an obvious one, but have you ever flushed a Band-Aid? They are made from plastic and they will never dissolve.
DENTAL FLOSS…dental floss seems innocuous, but it can bundle around other things and cause huge problems for your pipes.
CHEWING GUM…ever hear the old wives tale about gum staying in your stomach for 7 years if swallowed? Well, you can count on that piece of chewing gum staying put in your pipes forever. It is sticky and it will never dissolve.
PILL MEDICATIONS…have an old bottle of medication you need to get rid of? Don’t flush them. Instead, ground them up and throw them out in the garbage or find a local take-back program.
Take my advice, only flush what was meant to be flushed down the toilet. You and your pipes will thank me!
